Deconstruction-Wheat Thins Commercial
1. Who paid for the ad?
The wheat thins company paid for this ad.
2. Why does the company need to do the ad?
The company needs to do the add so they can sell more wheat thins out in the market.
3. What group is targeted by the ad?
Anyone who loves wheat thins is really being targeted by this ad. Also I think anyone who likes Family Guy, it is a popular show so the wheat thins company really used that to their advantage.
8. What techniques of persuasion are used?
The characters are saying "wheat thins" over and over again (total of 21 times) and they want you to keep that in your head so it kind of sticks with you. Also they are sort of fighting over the wheat thins which makes them seem delicious.
12. What is not told?
This commercial doesn't tell how much the wheat thins are or what kinds they sell. From my personal knowledge I know they have many flavors but here it doesnt show or say it.
14. Is it closer to fantasy or reality?
I would say this commercial is more of fantasy because dogs cant talk with humans.
15. Does it use stereotype?
This commercial doesn't use any stereotypes that I saw.

PBS Teachers-Digital Media Literacy
- On the quiz I only got 4/12 right. Some of the answers I was surprised at for example this question... In 2009, what was the average amount of time spent with all forms of media for 8 to 18 year-olds in the US? I said the answer was 8 hours and 29 minutes however the answer was 10 hours and 45 minutes.
- What Is It?-The link I looked at in this section was TeacherWeb. At this site I learned that you can make websites for your classroom that parents can look at and keep up to date with. I am not sure what I think about this, I kind of like the whole newsletter print out but this way work for some people who like computers. http://www.teacherweb.com/
- How Do I Use It- The link I looked at is called Education World: Technology Integration. In this link It tells you many apps that you can use as a teacher. One of these apps is called TeacherPal. It helps you organize all of your things in one calendar like app. http://www.educationworld.com/a_tech/
- Learn More- I looked at this link...Digital Directions Online and found an article where an ipad, using braille, helped a blind child learn. The article is called Digital Revolution Changing Lives of Students With Disabilities. http://www.edweek.org/dd/
- Examples- I have never heard of SchoolTube so I clicked on it and I found something amazing! There is a youtube video that a math teacher made to the music of Nicki Minaj's song Super Base, however the teacher changed the words to make a song about maths exponents. I found this incredibly helpful. It was just last night that I was trying to help explain to my younger sister about exponents. I showed her the video and it seemed to click with her. Weird right? http://www.schooltube.com/
- At PBS Resources i looked at a link called PBS TeacherLine. I never heard of it before so I decided to take look. At this site you can do so many things; you can sharpen your teaching skills online and look through their catalogs and find any subject.
- One that intrigues me and someday would like to try with my students would be to use Google Earth to do a geography project. For example we could look at the biggest dams in the world and we could look them up and actually see what they look like. I think the children would really engage and like this project because they get to see other places.

Deconstruction- Doritos Commercial
This commercial is about a dog who has killed a cat and burried it in the back yard...The male human finds out that the dog killed the cat and when his wife asks if he has seen the cat, he says no because the dog gives him a bag of doritos for bribery. This commercial overall was very funny! :)
1. Who paid for the ad?
The Doritos Company most likely paid for this ad.
2. Why does the company need to do the ad?
The company needs to make these ads so that they can sell more Doritos.
3. What group is targeted by the ad?
This is targeted to people who love to eat Doritos.
4. What about the ad leads one to that conclusion?
Towards the end of the video when the wife asks her husband if he has seen the cat, he looks at the dog with the Doritos and says no. That shows that he loves Doritos so much that he would lie to his wife just to get a bag of them.
8. What techniques of persuasion are used?
Persuasion in this commercial is that if you eat Doritos you will be happier in your everyday life. So if your not happy, grab a bag.
9. What different meanings would different people perceive?
People could perceive different meaning such as if you do something bad you could cover it up with a bribe, which is never good in any case.
14. Is it closer to fantasy or reality?
I think it is closer to fantasy because a dog cant think logically about killing a cat and burying it to hide the mess. Then bribing the owner with the Doritos which I think is very funny.

Deconstruction #1 With Group
1. Who paid for the ad?
- The people that paid for this add would be the Snuggie people.
2. Why did they create this ad?
- To sell more Snuggie's to pet lovers.
3. Who is targeted?
- The group that this is targeted to animal lovers- people who own pets.
4. What about the ad leads to that conclusion?
- It shows that people who really love their pets will keep them warm, for instance going for a walk outside.
14. Is this ad closer to Fantasy or Reality?
- This is definitely closer to reality because some people do love their pets like they are their children and they will do anything to help keep them warm.
8. What techniques of persuasion are used?
- They are using adorable puppies in this add which gives a warm and fuzzy feeling. They also use everyday people which makes it reality.
15. Does it use stereotypes?
- The only stereotype that we found as a group was that throughout the whole add there are no men putting a Snuggie on a puppy. They were all women so this could give off that only women use things like this.

48 Hour Media Blog Analysis
My first thought about this 48 hour media blog was hmm this will be very interesting project because I use all kinds of media daily. When looking at my blog I noticed that I used more media on the weekend because I stay up later and thus use more media. However on the weekdays I noticed I use a lot of media as well, maybe slightly less than the weekday. Let’s start with the weekday.
On the weekday I use the most media in the afternoon when I get to work. I work in an office as an administrator assistant and we are constantly using digital sources of media. While at work I multi task a lot by answer the phones and am always on my computer using our AS400 system. I also use the internet on a regular basis for checking my mail, the UAF blackboard and shopping sites such as amazon.com, craigslist and Alaskas list. At work I also check my Facebook often through my Iphone (since Facebook is prohibited on our work computers). After work I go home and use my laptop often for doing homework. I would use Microsoft word and the internet for research. While doing homework the TV is usually on and I watch it as I am doing homework. Then before bed, I check my Iphone and make sure to set my alarm for the next day. Lastly I check Facebook and head off to sleep. The weekend is a bit different.
On the weekend I use a bit more digital media than the weekday. On Saturday I got up early to start on homework. I used my laptop almost all day. I started by checking my mail and blackboard. Then I roamed a bit and looked up puppies on YouTube then went to online math homework. While working on my laptop, I multi-task by having an open tab of Facebook so I can check it every once in a while. After doing homework I messed around with pictures on my laptop using the webcam. My siblings and I took some pictures and I edited them with a thing called Irfan View and posted them on Facebook. On the weekends I also text a lot so throughout the day I was texting my friends. I helped my little brother with his IPod; I showed him how to use iTunes and how to move music onto his iPod. At the end of the day I went to a friend’s house to hang out and we listened to music the whole time on her Ihome.
In general I use the media to communicate with my family and friends. For example, the whole reason I got a Facebook was to keep in touch with all of my family and friends that have moved out of state. I am very glad that I did this project because it helped open my eyes to how much digital media I use on the daily. One thing I am very surprised about is how much time I spend on Facebook and how it has affected me. I notice every time I get on my computer to do homework I always have it open on its own tab through the internet. For example, like right now while I am writing this I have it open. I am starting to think I should lay off a bit on the usage of Facebook.
